20th September 2008 - Erpingham 0 - Easton 9 (nine)
Easton travelled to Erpingham in the Junior Cup first round with hopes of starting off a successful cup run. Erpingham who play in the North Norfolk league division 1 were a little known quantity, but anything other than a win for Easton would be a shock result. Easton played the same team that lined up against Freethorpe with Neil Moggan and Pete Anderson switching positions.
The pitch was an interesting shape that you would only see drawn by a 5 year old child or a groundsman on the way home from the local after drinking about 13 pints of stella.
On the hottest day of the season Erpingham kicked off and Easton started to dominate immediately playing good football throughout the team. This led to the first goal after only a few minutes when a cross field pass picked was driven onto by N.Moggan and drilled home in convincing style across the goalkeeper.
Erpingham caused a few problems early on dropping an extra player into centre midfield but did little to disrupt the early possesion Easton had. The lead was doubled shortly after when L.Newton rose to power a header home from a P.Gibbs corner. S.Halton had a couple of chances early on to increase the lead but either good defending or goal-keeping stopped him opening up his tally. N.Moggan did increase the lead with a similar goal to his first and was unlucky not to get a first half hat-trick hitting the wood work.
All credit to Erpingham who could have folded early on but still tried to play neat passing football from the back but were more often snubbed out by the hard working Easton midfield, this led to the 4th (or 5th) goal when N.Moggan and P.Anderson closed down the full back with a cross from the latter being picked out by L.Newton to score.
Easton led at half time 5-0 and soon into the second half E.Jack made three changes bringing on himself, T.Payne and S.Loftus. E.Jack immediately made an impression on Erpinghams number 7 and S.Shaw slotted in nicely to Centre Back in replacement of P.Keogh. Easton continued to play attacking football with good play from S.Loftus and movement from T.Payne. It was only a matter of time before Easton increased the scoring.
Erpingham did have one attack that produced a decent save from C.Brownbridge, however L.Newton added a further 2 goals completing a well deserved hattrick and N.Moggan also completed his after good work down the right. S. Halton added his second before the goal of the game came from E.Jack, after his first effort with his right foot went weakly wide, there seemed little danger when he drove on down the left wing and let rip with a stunning 25 yard drive that left the keeper looking over his shoulder to see it drop in the top corner. Some people might say that it was a cross and that he could never kick the ball with his left foot but they would be wrong.
Easton almost hit double figures and S.Halton almost hit a chicken in the pub car park but neither were to be. Returning to league action on Saturday against Newton Flotman, Easton hope to continue the dominant football they have playing this season and convert good performances into points.
