Post 21st February 09 - Easton 5 v 1 Mattishall Res
Easton went into the game with a few changes from last weeks disappointing performance and result against North Walsham. Trigger missing the game through injury (bruised ankle) and Stu Halton (away). This gave an opportunity for Pete Anderson returning from injury to partner Paul Giibs in centre midfield, resulting in Neil Morgan returning to the forward line and Andrew Jordan replacing Trigger in defence.

Eddie Jack was keen to get the team back to winning ways and to capture a 10th win in 12 league games (the only 2 losses coming from N.Walsham) geared the team up and after an initally scrappy 5 minutes Easton obliged with some fast flowing attacking football putting Mattishall on the back foot.

The opening goal did not take long when Beanie managed to beat the offside trap and round the keeper and tucking the ball away neatly. This was a catalyst for the remainder of the first half in which Easton maintained a good pace throughout. Good work and quality passing from the inform Neil Morgan created a number of half chances, before Pete Anderson went clear through requiring the goalkeeper to make a good save.

Easton should have increased the lead when Pete Anderson went clear through again after good work in midfield before blasting over from 25 yards with Simon Rix supporting. However, the deserved second goal came soon after when Beanie wriggled his way into the penalty box and got a yard of space before driving an unstoppable shot into the top corner via the underside of the cross bar.

A Mattishall centre forward was proving a handful but support from the rest of the team was not forthcoming with Easton dominating every area of the pitch. Mattishall did pull a goal back 5 minutes from the second half when a deep cross was missed by Chris Brownbridge and the Mattishall player headed into an empty net. This caused a few jittery moments in the dying minutes of the half.

Easton re-focussed at half time and were again in a dominating mood with Simon Rix and Tim Wickham getting more of the ball down the right hand side. Neil Morgan got a deserved goal slotting home to give Easton the 2 goal cushion they were after with Mattishall as good as beaten.

Andrew Jordan and James Crane were comfortable at the back with little or no threat being posed by Mattishall which enabled Steve Shaw and Simon Rix to attack more often and after good work from Anderson and Gibbs the ball broke to Rix who played a neat one two to go through on goal before slotting home confidently.

With the game won Tom Payne and Eddie Jack replaced the tiring Anderson and injured Jordan, before completing the rout with Beanies hat-trick. Neil Morgans cross was met by Eddie Jack who scuffed his shot (Tim Wickhams words) for Beanie to slot home.

A satisfying team effort keeps Easton in 5th place, 5 points clear of Marlingford but 8 points behind Freethorpe. With 14 games left Eastons promotion push looks difficult but not impossible with games in hand over the sides above and Harleston to play twice starting next week.

Pete I think you will find that I stepped over the cross knowing full well Beanie was coming in on the back post. Also who is this new player Neal Morgan?

Sorry where I got things wrong about the game... was obviously due to my work rate and not having played properly for 3 months!!!

I have no idea who Neal Morgan is... rubbish with names.

I didnt see the last goal so quoted Tims version of events.

I think you'll find my description of the last goal was actually..

"Our glorious manager came on to make his regular cameo apperance and justified it by his sublime vision to pick out Lee Newton at the far post after Neil Moggan had fired a devilish cross across the box. Mere mortals such as you and I would not have dared to attempt such a pin point pass however, testement to the mans ability, Eddie accomplished it with supreme aplomb."
