Eddie Jack takes his team to Loddon on jet another glorious Saturday without the mercurial Beanie, Moggy, Wickham and hardworking Aggy all missing for various reasons. Nike sent their entire research department to Loddon to analyse the performance of the new Mercurial Vapor IX, as worn by S.Rix. Starting:Tretty, Nick, Matty, Keogh, Rix, Rafa, Joffy, Norm, Aris, Pete, Stu. Subs:Doyle, Jack, Danny With three of the best footballers you are likely to see in the division missing Eddie had to make wholesale changes with Matty, Joffy, Nick, Rafa and Pete all changing positions and with possibly the second best centre back in the division also missing Peter Keogh kept his place in defence along the the imperial Rix. Easton started brightly with Aris and Joffy seeing a lot of the ball and Matty(Messi)Fell providing a great out ball at left back. It wasn’t long before all the possession left Pete in space who in turn played the perfect through ball to Stu who finished with aplomb, only his first decent chance of the season. The new combination of short and long ball possession enabled Easton to put the Loddon back line under enormous pressure throughout the half and Rafa was leaving his man chasing shadows. A mix of clever running, tough tackling and powerful running again from Rafa (well supported by Nick at RB) was a joy to watch. Loddon were keen to play some good football but had to resort to long ball stuff due to the incredible workrate of everyone in a green shirt. Rix, Keogh, Nick and Messi were looking solid and Tretty had little to worry about save the odd corner because of the general height throughout the Loddon team. HT 0-1 If the first half was exciting the the second half was off the scale for the large Loddon crowd who were enjoying the football played by both sides as well as the sunshine and cheap beer. In all fairness Easton started the quicker again in the second half. Joffy and Norm were enjoying more time and space than you are usually afforded at this standard and Rafa continued where he left off even though Loddon had swapped full backs. Another long ball into Easton’s left was dealt with superbly by Matty who was penalised for having his own ankles clipped by the Loddon RW!!!!! The freekick was delivered into the Easton box and yet again was cleared by the Keogh. The ball landed at a Loddon player on the edge of Easton’s box and despite the sublime Rix throwing himself at the ball the deflection left Tretty with no chance 1-1 Easton felt disappointed as they had been in control for most the match but were soon back in front after good work from Stu down the left found pete who headed the ball into the net (or had it already crossed the line?) to make it 1-2 Again Loddon came back and as predicted from another set piece as they threw a large number of very tall players into the box. The first phase was well competed by Easton but the mess was swept home from close range 2-2 10 minutes to go and Easton had conceded a lead twice and both from set pieces it looked like it may be an unfortunate afternoon for Easton against a hard working Loddon. With 5 to go Danny rounded the keeper after great work from fellow sub Doyle and was unlucky not to score from a tight angle!! More good work from Stu and Matty on the left afforded Easton a freekick 25yds out who were able to throw everyone forwards in a final throw of the dice. Unlike against Mulbarton some weeks earlier the gamble paid off. Yet another fantastic freekick from Matty was dangerously delivered into the Loddon 6yd box. From my position at the far post it looked like Keogh would have a headed opportunity from 2yds. On seeing this I started to run back to the half way line (ready to defend the goal kick/throw in) but thankfully Doyle out jumped Keogh and powered his header into the back of the net. 2-3 With no time left to reply the referee blew his whisle. Loddon 2-3 Easton Another great display from Easton who showed great character, after conceding the lead twice, to come back and win the game in the dying moments. MOM was shared by Joffy and Matty with Rafa not far behind. Nick also had a stormer at RB and Pete was a constant danger upfront. After trialling the new Nike IX’s I am pleased to confirm that Nike are happy to supply the whole team with a pair Identical to mine if anyone is interested? What size are you Keogh? Lets see if Keogh can play better in football boots or whether his rugby boots that he currently wears are an appropriate choice. SkySports understands that Rafa damaged his hanky during the game so he will probably be unavailable for 2-4 weeks. Get well soon Rafa, you’ll be sorely missed for sure. Finally, good luck to Payton who has been sent out on season long loan to Wroxham FC. |
